Working Beyond 65

You may be entitled to special enrollment periods and coverage options.

If you work beyond 65 for a large employer (one with 20 or more employees) and are covered under a group health insurance plan, it’s OK to wait, but if your work for a small business with fewer than 20 employees, you may need Medicare Part A. It costs you nothing extra and may pick up costs that your employer’s insurance coverage doesn’t cover.

There are other things to consider as well…such as whether you’re contributing to a Health Savings Account (HSA). Bottom line, it pays to run the numbers before making Medicare decisions while still employed beyond 65.
